20th year anniversary party

Hey Crew of 2011,

What a great pleasure this summer turned out to be. I could not of dreamed it going that well. To really comprehend what we just accomplished would impress anyone from any walk of life.
It is fabulous to be a part of something awesome and I hope you all feel totally satisfied and appreciated. I absolutely swear to everyone that was one of the very best performances WW has every done. The paycheques seemed higher but also the team or family vibe showed up and seemed to take everyone in. That’s pretty vibrant, and way too high of an expectation to every expect. It’s very pure and excellent; I am personally excited and inspired by that feeling and sense of accomplishment.

Next season is a world away but there is a plan.

Trying to get a bigger contract adding one more crew of 6.
42 planters, 7 crews and 11 million trees. Some positives to look forward to are more staff:

We had 6 incredible crewbosses this season. All heart and full throttle learning curve. We are saying good bye to Paul Dwyer; thanks for everything Paul and all the best in the real world.
I absolutely know any of the crew bosses could step up to supervise the crewbosses. Dallas has been chosen for that job.
Wildwoods is looking for two new crewbosses for 2012.

Vinny highballed the camp and is retiring. Very cool!
Wildwoods is looking for 8-10 new planters for 2012.

If you have friends /potential hires e-mail me your comments about this person and have them e-mail wildwoods@telus.net
Otherwise, I expect most everyone will return next season.

We will be work on the following WW improvements this winter.

"Real Time" data/quality collection software
Direct deposit
More two way radios
Cool website improvements
A couple small quads for crewbosses
An excursion per crew (over time)
3rd marshmaster vehicle and trailer
One more cargo trailer for camp or gear
Improved camp internet etc.
Party barn art
Water alive system
Marshmaster back hoe (if snow caches warrant)

Great News! We absolutely did great on our safety audit.
We passed with 83% and the comment “great job”.
This info is typed up in a formal letter and mailed to LaCrete and Tolko. We look good!

We meet Tolko mid October to start talks for next season.

Cheers and all the best this winter~ walk tall!

20th Season ~ 100 Millionth Tree 2011

Directions to the farm: 2km south or High Level. Turn east just north of the scales.
The farm is 3 km on the left. Stay left at the 90 degree curve in the road and drive to the big red shops.

We have a midseason day and night celebration planned. (During the Watt 5 camp). This will be a very productive super fun season. We have 8.5 million trees to plant in 12 weeks or so.

The theme for this season is appreciation. Good Vibes.. Appreciation for : Wildwoods, each other, the new awesome cooks, having a job, the staff, Tolko, LaCrete, Evergreen and all the past amazing people that built Wildwoods over the past 20 years. I have raised tree prices back to their highest amount. I want us all to work hard and try extra hard to be nice and not judge each other. Lets have fun and do our jobs well.

The new marshmaster drivers are all professional drivers from High Level. They are great guys and know everything about machines and how to fix them. The four of us meet at the farm the first week of April to do a full maintenance program on all three marshmasters. We are removing the tracks and fixing or tightening every single part. We have purchased a backhoe that attaches to the marshmaster for bridge building, shitters and snow caches. (unfortunately, no back hoe this year as all my snowcaches are on the other side of the Bushee Creek so I have to fly and open caches) I will plan on it for 2012.

Our new cooks are a married couple named Codie and Brad. They have a Karelian bear dog named Fremont. Camp will be bear free. Our crew is full (see confirmed list below) We have lowered the crews size down to 6 planters from 7, to allow crewbosses more time for their planters. Crewbosses will need to record a few quality plots per planter everyday. We will meet Friday May 13th at the farm party barn 1pm. We will do our orientation meeting for 2-3 hours. Plant the next day. Siteviewing happens in March, the siteprep and season details will be posted in March.

NEW 2009 Planting Info~ May 1 2009

There's two WEEKS until we meet in High Level Alberta to plant 8.4 million trees.
It's going to be a great season with lots of new people and new energy.

Our smallest 2 clients (700,000 trees) have decided to cancil their tree planting program.
They are still making there decision but for now we are looking at a shorter season.
I expect to finish by August 11th.

EXTRA`s

You need to bring all your intereresting reading books to share in the Library.
They will be signed out and replaced if damaged. I have built a beatiful reading area and books are the best thing to do planting.

You need to bring your best costume for the dress up party. There are very few places to buy
party stuff up here.

You need to bring a void cheque or account number for direct deposit.

START DATE:

Wildwoods Party Barn Meet and Greet
Wednesday night 7pm-ish May 13th
1 mile south of High Level, turn left at angle road
just before self weigh station. Follow the bend left for 1 mile.
Through the intersection. The Wildwoods farm
driveway is on your left, the party barn is the smaller
building on your right.
The orientation meeting is the next afternoon at 1:00pm

Orientation Meeting

This is a mandatory meeting held at the Wildwoods farm hanger at 1:00pm on Thursday May 14th. It will introduce all Wildwoods policies and safety issues involved with your job.
We will go through Wildwoods safety manual, Tolko safety manuals, environmental issues, field safety bags, animal control, planting quality, injuries, attitude, tax forms, etc.
This is a mandatory meeting with a lot of valuable, necessary information and documentation. Bring snacks and be prepared to listen to me talk for 2-3 hours.
New for this season. I am picking the crews from a hat at the meet and greet party.

The first camp is roadside, it's an hour and a half north of High Level.
There will be maps to camp at the orientation meeting.
We will meet early evening May 14th to set up camp.
There is no food or water served by Wildwoods until breakfast day 1 at 7am.
So bring food and water for the evening.

We start Planting on May 15th.
We leave for work at 8 am.

PLANTING DETAILS

2,266,658 $0.1 ripper
500,000 $0.105 2+0 ripper
4,207,988 $0.11 hoe plow
291,492 $0.115 2+0 hoeplow
945,750$0.115 direct

Tolko put more effort into leaving cleaner blocks.
I have looked over the areas and agree the ground
looks better. I have returned the planting prices to
normal as the quality effort was better last season.

We have 6 camps this season. 3 are fly ins and 3 roadside.
Note: fly ins are up to 10 days at a time with minor supply runs.
Camp cost are $28 and the food will be awesome.

I have hired a productive and positive crew.
We will have 5 crews of seven.
We have to finish the contract by August 15th.
I will add a 6th crew if we fall behind.
But, I believe this crew will do it.

The average wage would be $26,100 in 58 days.

Get in shape, it's worth it. It's your job. Pay special attention
to your wrists. Tendonitis is the big thing to prepare for.
Find a way to warm your body up before going full speed.
Find a way to ease into it.

See you soon.
Jeff and Jody
