NEW 2009 Planting Info~ May 1 2009

There's two WEEKS until we meet in High Level Alberta to plant 8.4 million trees.
It's going to be a great season with lots of new people and new energy.

Our smallest 2 clients (700,000 trees) have decided to cancil their tree planting program.
They are still making there decision but for now we are looking at a shorter season.
I expect to finish by August 11th.

EXTRA`s

You need to bring all your intereresting reading books to share in the Library.
They will be signed out and replaced if damaged. I have built a beatiful reading area and books are the best thing to do planting.

You need to bring your best costume for the dress up party. There are very few places to buy
party stuff up here.

You need to bring a void cheque or account number for direct deposit.

START DATE:

Wildwoods Party Barn Meet and Greet
Wednesday night 7pm-ish May 13th
1 mile south of High Level, turn left at angle road
just before self weigh station. Follow the bend left for 1 mile.
Through the intersection. The Wildwoods farm
driveway is on your left, the party barn is the smaller
building on your right.
The orientation meeting is the next afternoon at 1:00pm

Orientation Meeting

This is a mandatory meeting held at the Wildwoods farm hanger at 1:00pm on Thursday May 14th. It will introduce all Wildwoods policies and safety issues involved with your job.
We will go through Wildwoods safety manual, Tolko safety manuals, environmental issues, field safety bags, animal control, planting quality, injuries, attitude, tax forms, etc.
This is a mandatory meeting with a lot of valuable, necessary information and documentation. Bring snacks and be prepared to listen to me talk for 2-3 hours.
New for this season. I am picking the crews from a hat at the meet and greet party.

The first camp is roadside, it's an hour and a half north of High Level.
There will be maps to camp at the orientation meeting.
We will meet early evening May 14th to set up camp.
There is no food or water served by Wildwoods until breakfast day 1 at 7am.
So bring food and water for the evening.

We start Planting on May 15th.
We leave for work at 8 am.

PLANTING DETAILS

2,266,658 $0.1 ripper
500,000 $0.105 2+0 ripper
4,207,988 $0.11 hoe plow
291,492 $0.115 2+0 hoeplow
945,750$0.115 direct

Tolko put more effort into leaving cleaner blocks.
I have looked over the areas and agree the ground
looks better. I have returned the planting prices to
normal as the quality effort was better last season.

We have 6 camps this season. 3 are fly ins and 3 roadside.
Note: fly ins are up to 10 days at a time with minor supply runs.
Camp cost are $28 and the food will be awesome.

I have hired a productive and positive crew.
We will have 5 crews of seven.
We have to finish the contract by August 15th.
I will add a 6th crew if we fall behind.
But, I believe this crew will do it.

The average wage would be $26,100 in 58 days.

Get in shape, it's worth it. It's your job. Pay special attention
to your wrists. Tendonitis is the big thing to prepare for.
Find a way to warm your body up before going full speed.
Find a way to ease into it.

See you soon.
Jeff and Jody

  1. Excellent campaign!!! Why don't you join us in Panama? However, I have the following observation. In your area wildfires are a serious problem although they have positive regenerative effects and regenerative powers for native forests, forest fires are highly destructive.

You might consider incorporating into your program firebreaks of paulownia which have an ignition temperature of 425 degrees centigrade.

For more information on paulownia you may read www.paulownianow.org
